Hi, this is a really good point. We’re aiming to overhaul the firewall log viewer this year (among a lot of other firewall improvement work) and it’s obviously an equally good idea for the Guardian log viewer… we’ll see what we can do.

We are averaging 25-30 requests per SECOND, so this is needed now, more than ever!

Joel Oman - in which release is this functionality available? I'm running Leeds-6 and I don't see how to search the web filter logs for anything other than a time with zero seconds.

    Hi,

I know it’s been discussed for some time but IPv6 development is finally underway! Thanks for the feedback so far and those who helped fill out our survey.

As it’s a mammoth project to make entire Smoothwall networking and all modules support dual stack IPv4 / IPv6 it will be completed in stages over the next few major releases.

I’m now looking for willing customers who are planning to move to IPv6, or perhaps already are deploying IPv6 on their networks to help us gain valuable feedback as the project develops. This will include discussion on your requirements and early previews of the work we’re doing in our agile demos.

Please email me at chris.humby@smoothwall.net and let me know if you’re interested in participating. I’ll also keep uservoice posted with updates as the work progresses.

    Regards,

    Chris Humby
    Product Manager

We just received a block of IPv6 addresses today. I still don't see a way to assign an IPv6 address to an interface, and we're on Leeds-4. It's been 13 months since the last status update. I'll be emailing Chris shortly, but I think a public status update is in order.

    Thanks!

Smoothwall has stated that, due to the subjective nature of which games are educational, they would not make such a category. However, there are other sub-categories that are more objective, that I'd like to see. Categories like; Violent, Intolerant, Sexual, and commercial are all very cut-and-dry. These are categories that we see over and over, and blocking them is a cat and mouse game.

Thanks for the info. Is there a function in Excel and/or GoogleSheets to convert it to human-readable format?

I ended up exporting from the switch, as advised, but I have no idea if encrypted URLs are being included.

    Jay Duff commented  ·

I actually already had the switch set up to export netflows. Will it work with encrypted traffic? I was under the impression that the only way to see where encrypted traffic was going was by using Decrypt & Inspect. Is that incorrect?

This is one of a few firewall “ease of use” changes we’re hoping to make as soon as we get chance!

I understand the concern now. Our wireless BYOD solution (Ruckus) uses the GC, and can tell the differences between users by looking at the Distinguished Name rather than the SAMAccountName. It's on us to make sure that any user name overlaps are handled correctly. We make sure there aren't any.

I'm curious what the advantage of using RPC over LDAP (or even LDAPS) is. I imagine that's why you need a computer account set up when using the domain. I know my LDAP/S users (Ruckus, Destiny, Equitrac, Google Active Directory Sync, etc) don't need that. Switching might make installation slightly simpler, unless you're using the Active Directory connection for more than just AAA.

As for using Kerberos - I haven't had much experience with it, so I think I'll leave the testing of it to someone more qualified! :)

    Jay Duff commented  ·

Dennis, at your North Carolina location, pointed out that we can add each subdomain as an additional directory, and that is a viable workaround. However, using the Global Catalog is a much more elegant solution. I'll take this down to 1 vote though. :)
