  1. Static Firewall Log - be able to view the info from Networking » Filtering » IP block - where log has been enabled

When an IP block has been enabled in Networking » Filtering » IP block and set to log, it would be good to be able to select a filtered output on the firewall log to just show these blocked attempts and their source IP.

  2. 4OD is not working for the school who uses it intensively for children education.

4OD from channel4 is used by a lot of school in their teaching environment. There has been issues when playing these videos when going through smoothwall web proxy. The videos work fine without the web proxy.
The issue has been reported nearly 3 months ago but still hasn't been resolved.
I think this issue needs addressing and some resource directed in to this to fix the problem

  3. MD5 sum not provided when customers download ISOs manually

When using http://customer.smoothwall.net/download to download an ISO for a product, the MD5 sum is not provided so customers and resellers cannot verify their downloads. Could this be provided?

When Support send a download link via email, the MD5 sum and file size is included in the email.

  4. Allow DNS names in destination exceptions

    Feature request from customer.

In Guardian > Web Filter > Exceptions > Manage destination exceptions, I'd like to be able to use dns names, not just IP addresses.

Why? We use transparent auth for BYOD staff devices for ease of config. Certain apps on those devices assume a direct https connection and don't play nicely with transparent auth.

So I could use an exception, right? Provided I know that it's safe to do so for that destination.

Unless the service I'm connected to is load-balanced and my request could be served by server01.region.domain.com or server45.region.domain.com or server87.otherregion.domain.com depending on their…

  5. key information logged when rule is created / changed

When a rule is added or changed, information such as the name of the user who created the rule and the time it was created and the name of the user who last edited the rule and the time it was edited should be caputed. An area for a more detailed description on why the rule has been created / modified should be provided. These extras should not be displayed until the rule is clicked on, keeping the rule list clean and easy to read.

  7. Mac Mobile Proxy - Enable option to change Defualt Port for client to talk back to the your smoothwall.

Most high level ports could be blocked by default rules in a personal fire wall or router in a personal home. It would be nice to change the default port to a more common port like 80 or 443.

  8. Add to Whitelist Option - Spam Quarantine

Would it be possible to have a 'add sender to whitelist/blacklist' button on the quarantine viewer?

This would make it a lot easier than compiling a list each time a false positive hits the quarantine, then adding it to the whitelist.

  9. Have a 'who' option on web proxy - auth - manage policies to be able to restrict who can / cannot login to a specific interface.

Have a 'who' option on web proxy - auth - manage policies to be able to restrict who can / cannot login to a specific interface.

The idea behind this would be to restrict which members of specific groups can login, so for example if you want everyone to login the who would be 'everyone' but if you wanted to setup a sixth form wireless and only members of sixth form could login you could select who as 'sixth form' and every member of every other group you have would be blocked from using this interface.

  10. The ability to open certain IP ports at specific times

I'm thinking specifically about Skype. Being a boarding school management think it important that Skype be available for students to contact home on an evening. Being able to specify certain ports to open on an evening would facilitate this.

  12. Reports based on location

Allow reporting to be refined by policy-object location - eg "what sites was prof.plum visiting in the_library?" (leadpipe.com as it turns out)

  13. Seperate IPS policy per port forward

At present it seems like if you want to enforce IPS on a port forward, you tick one box which applies ALL of the active policies upon the port. This can be unbelievably confusing, especially when trying to troubleshoot which policy is causing a problem. Hopefully there's a way to drill these options down to select which policies apply to each port separately.

  14. Shutdown button in GUI warning message

When you click in the GUI on the shutdown button, the SW will go down. It would be nice if you first get a message if you are sure.

  16. Audit control for bypass access of admin capable users

Audit control, or logging, for bypass access of admin capable users. The customer would like to be able to track when staff use the “bypass feature” to gain or allow access to blocked URL’s.

  17. Get Expired Bans on the Portal to disappear after a certain time period

At current, after Temporary bans expire, they stay until a Smoothwall Admin clears the expired bans on the Web Control Panel.
A few users have requested that expired bans should disappear after a set period of time say 24 hours.

  18. Avoid truncating domain names in 'Top Domain' section of Dashboard

At the moment long domain names are truncated in the 'Top Domain' section of the Dashboard.

    For example the domain
    'o-o.preferred.iad09g05.v23.lscache5.c.youtube.com' is shown as 'o-o.preferred.iad09g05.v6.lsc'

In this case it is not possible to see the actual domain 'youtube.com' in the list.

Either reduce the white space in this area in order to show more text, or truncate the start of the domain name and use an ellipsis to show it has been truncated.

The domain name is more important to understand what is happening then sub domain name.

  19. can we add a password limit for trys on the ssh service after 3 attempts IP is blocked?

can we add a password limit for try's on the ssh service after 3 attempts IP is blocked? This is for use in an ISP type scenario where users are guessing the password after numerous attempts, so if we can block after so many attempts will stop this from happening

  20. Allow reports based on named time periods

Reports should include a filter on named time period - these are tagged in the logs so should be included to be reported on eg. "most web usage during core hours"?
