  1. Condense Alerts/Alert Settings Page

Both the Alerts and Alert Settings pages should be condensed down to a table of the current information. The settings are so spread out that making modifications to the pages is time consuming and unintuitive.

  2. stop closing the exclude box in web filter log

If you move your mouse outside of the exclude box in the web filter log, it closes, this is EXTREMELY annoying.

  3. Re-orgnize Menus and Dashboard

I have worked on many firewall devices and see the GUI of Fortigate is very easy for the user.
I recommend the Smoothwall's GUI should be similar.

  4. 'Earlier' and 'Later' buttons

I would like to see the 'Earlier' and 'Later' navigation buttons at the bottom of the realtime web filter page. At present, they are only at the top and the user needs to scroll back up to the top of the page to progress forward in time or go backwards.

  5. Ability to notify any pending updates by email

Ability to notify any pending updates by email to individual or group email address. This would use the same smtp credentials as the report notifications section, outgoing settings.

  6. Add notes to source and destination exception list so that I.P addresses are identifiable from the screen

At present we have a list of devices shown by I.P address in our web filter exceptions. It would be a bonus if we could add a device name or location to the list.

  7. Standard Categories

It would be great if under Categories, the "Standard Categories" are expanded by default and if they continue to be at the bottom of the list. It would make it a lot easier to add custom content to each via find, which I would imagine that Smoothwall would review and categorise such content in the back end.

  8. Making the block page for adverts e.g. googleadservices.com etc. more clear to end users

It would be handy if there was a way of making the advert blocked message (for googleadservices.com etc) appear more obvious i.e. change the CSS of the resultant page to make the text bold, red in colour and bigger. As it stands it leads to people blaming our system i.e. network\browser\Smoothwall because its almost like a blank screen (with a tiny 'Advert blocked' message in gray writing in the top left of the page - this is very easy to miss and misconstrue as the page not loading. This will only get worse on mobile devices with smaller screens, which…

  9. Ability to add notes to exception IP addresses

Quite often when looking through our Smoothwall boxes we come across IP addresses in the exceptions list that we don't recognise. This may be due to settings being implemented a long time ago, or by another member of the team. Our main concern is that if there is an address that we can't identify we need to make sure that it hasn't been implemented as a quick fix solution to bypassing the firewall, therefore exposing a user to potentially inappropriate material.

For example it may be an IP address of the schools boiler monitoring system phoning home, which is fine.…

  10. Printable views for Rulesets and other configuration pages

When reviewing certain configuration pages, the displayed information (for example Firewall Rules - e.g. Network » Firewall » Firewall rules) in some of the columns is truncated - or additional text is only visible if a field is "expanded" (by clicking something) or by hovering the mouse pointer over the text field. This makes reviewing the overall ruleset (in one go) quite difficult.

It would be useful if there was a "print" button that created a nicely formatted printable version of the page, with *all* information present, that could either be viewed onscreen (perhaps via PDF) or (dare I say)…

  12. Display a Filter List Description in the Portal

When users are using the portal they currently cannot see the descriptive comments in the "Manage Filter Lists" that set in the admin console under Guardian > Policy Objects > Categories in the Comment field. It would be beneficial that portal users who can edit the Lists know what each of he lists do in order to aid them using the right filter list. Displaying this comment under the title would achieve this

  13. Save Button

When I mark a report, I then click on Edit and the report shows at the top. After I make any changes, how is the report Saved?

  14. restrict IDS alerts

Where IDS sends alerts notifying of an event - once it has been investigated it would be useful to white list that event to prevent future alerts

for example i get hundreds of these alerts a day and it would be good to filter them out

" 6F000110: IDS alert (Intrusion Priority: 2 [Attempted Denial of Service]) ET CURRENT Possible Cisco ASA 5500 Series Adaptive Security Appliance Remote SIP Inspection Device Reload Denial of Service Attempt (sid: 2010818) [81.145.172.30:5060->

  16. Have a "Search" button on Web Filter

When trying to change settings for a search to track down a problem using the Web filter report, I made the changes to my criteria and couldn't see how to use them to give me search results. Looked for a "search" button. (As a newbie, I wanted to search for blocked pages but couldn't see how to do it AND I am a little puzzled as to why the "Category" box doesn't make use of a Combo Box item for selection ...!

  17. Configurable Dashboard

Could the items on the dashboard be configurable by the user? It would be nice to see what we wanted on the dashboard such as quick block / allow or live web traffic, rather than the current set of information / tools.

  18. NETWORK --> INTERFACE page

If I create comments for my interfaces, and click on the SHOW COMMENTS option, why do I have to keep on clicking on SHOW COMMENTS every time I leave then return to this page?

Leave the interface comments on all the time!

  20. Bandwidth graph instead of hits

I would rather see a scrolling Bandwidth monitor than the hits monitor.
