Tie safeguarding reports to blocked / allowed activities
I have a product improvement suggestion that would aid us greatly in finding an actual use for the safeguarding part of the Smoothwall UTM product.
At present, there is no real link between the Safeguarding instant notifications & reports, and the web filtering logs that they are built upon. Usually, when we discover a real safeguarding issue after trawling through a large quantity of false safeguarding flags, we currently have to go back through the logs to establish whether the noted issues were or were not actually blocked. This takes a lot of time, and is essential to be able to tell whether a child has seen the content in question and / or could have been harmed by what they have seen / visited.
My suggestion is to add a simple column to all safeguarding reports that states clearly if the particular item in question was allowed or blocked by guardian, as we have regularly discovered that there is a real mixture.
This would really reduce the amount of work it takes to use the safeguarding notifications and reports, and make it so the information provided was useful in the form provided – as it stands the work involved prevents us really using this part of the Smoothwall UTM product.
My colleagues and I are really keen to see this as an improvement.
