Improve BYOD Roaming by Using Fast Reconnect Equivalent
Use the Linux equivalent by enabling TLS caching "use_tunneled_reply" so that roaming works seamlessly from one AP to the next, which it does not do reliably at the moment.

Reporting again Please vote if you want to change this.

We require simple reports that we can hand over to our HR team about users internet activity. Something that would say joe bloggs was on Facebook at 14:00 for 2 Hrs on this date.

Every report we run means we have to spend hours simplifying these reports for a non IT person to be able to understand.

Subject name on each group in a report so multiple queries can be run in a single report with simple headings for each group query. This will help creating reports for managers with…

    Hi,

    This is one of our most voted ideas and we used the feedback to help build our Safeguarding reports in Framlingham and Glamis releases. Aim was to provide something that;

    • Simple and easy to understand so it can be delivered and used directly by Safeguarding officers, HR and other non-IT personnel with minimal understanding of web technology.
    • Highlighted the breaches and intent with specific colour coded breach levels and relevant information highlighting the user intent.
    • Report broken down in to headers on a per user basis.
    • Ability to delegate, email or print reports directly to the relevant department, minimising IT departments overheads with this work.

We know many customers are using these reports already and have received much positive feedback.

However, I can see from previous comments there’s still room for improvement and you have some smart ideas on how to take this further. I’m…

    Hi,

I know it’s been discussed for some time but IPv6 development is finally underway! Thanks for the feedback so far and those who helped fill out our survey.

As it’s a mammoth project to make entire Smoothwall networking and all modules support dual stack IPv4 / IPv6 it will be completed in stages over the next few major releases.

I’m now looking for willing customers who are planning to move to IPv6, or perhaps already are deploying IPv6 on their networks to help us gain valuable feedback as the project develops. This will include discussion on your requirements and early previews of the work we’re doing in our agile demos.

Please email me at chris.humby@smoothwall.net and let me know if you’re interested in participating. I’ll also keep uservoice posted with updates as the work progresses.

    Regards,

    Chris Humby
    Product Manager
    Smoothwall

  4. Change Tracking / Auditing

Change tracking or auditing of changes applied would be useful. The addition of adding a note would serve as a reminder of why/who/when a change was made. Would be specially useful where multiple admins maintain a single Smoothwall or a cluser.

    Update:
Here’s a preview of the log imported to a spreadsheet: https://twitter.com/ChrisHumby/status/925409517239750657
Longer term we’d love to build this into the UI, perhaps with a roll-back mechanism. However for now will this help with figuring out who made what change?

We’ve taken another look at retrofitting some improved auditing within our SWG / UTM products to help track configuration changes.

Initially our plan is to improve the logging so you can import it to a spreadsheet and see what Guardian changes were made at a given time. We aiming to get this into our Leeds castle release so we won’t be able to include much more than this for now.

  5. Reports should include the time period the report is for and any speciffic options selected

Please add option for reports to display a title containing the time period and what the report is for? For example, I have a report that displays the activity of a specific user over a period of time, but the report does not display what user or what period of time the report is for. If you have to run many reports for different users for different periods of time it makes it extremely difficult to tell which report refers to what user. This is also the case when exporting reports to a file (.pdf, .csv, etc.). I have tried…

As we go along, we’re gradually updating reports and creating news ones to ensure each has this information. This allows someone looking at a report much later or looking through many reports to see what the data is that they’re looking at.

We are looking to add the ability to print to PDF in Kenilworth.

  8. Safeguarding reports

The Safeguarding notifications are reporting huge amounts of issues that we believe are mostly false positives. There are no easy options to provide exclusion scopes to fine tune notifications.

Our Safeguarding officer is currently receiving huge amounts of normal links and is concerned there may be some links with potential concerns but has not got the time to sift through all of these.

As it currently stands, the Safeguarding section is in need of some considerable work and improvement before this would be considered as useful. Please advise.

  9. Safeguarding

The safeguarding reports seem to be over sensitive. On reviewing our daily report the overwhelming majority of alerts are false positives. For example a job search on Indeed has been flagged as pornography with a level of danger. The risk is that if Peter cries "Wolf" too often we will stop responding. Will these reports be refined or will a option to set the sensitivity level be introduced.

We have added improvements in Inverness which is out in the coming weeks.

  10. Ability to export the Safeguarding Reports - Attach to alert!

The new Safeguarding Reports are exactly what we need however in the event of an incident we really do need to be able to export them to pass them on the the relevant persons with the other evidence. Teachers are feeding back that they don't want to have to log on to get the info and take a screen shot.
It would be nice if the alert email could have the detailed report attached to the email as well.

The changes in Glamis includes modifications to the daily email alerts – they now include full user details.

The weekly and monthly reports are too large (over the size of the common exchange server limits), we’ll revisit exporting these reports in the future – ideally we’d like to make them shareable via a URL.

  11. Radicalisation

Have just received a concerned call from a Senior Manager about the fact that we should be blocking "Radicalisation" as a specific category on the internet filtering. (Other products, "Websense" advertise that they do this, which is what I got quoted) I couldn't see this term used specifically despite seeing terrorism. So she was still concerned about this category. If it does it, it might be worth changing the name on the category terrorism to terrorism / radicalisation if that is what it does or something equivalent. I wouldn't have had to raise a call if it did.

At the moment Safeguarding has a “Radicalisation” ruleset that includes the filtering categories “Terrorism” and “Intolerance”. We would like to expand on this further with a separate list of phrases/words in the future that will be used for monitoring purposes (these phrases are too ambiguous most of the time to block them but should be flagged up in context)

  12. Lack of Graphs

This page is lacking graphs. It would be much nicer if we had graphs on the overview page.

A redesign on the dashboard is under way to give more visibility of stats, better graphs, less complexity and better links through to the relevant sections by clicking the various new widgets.

  13. A search tool to see what rules affect ip a.x.y.z

Large list such as those found on zone bridging and outgoing sources pages can be hard to read.

We should provide a means of easily looking at rules that affect only the traffic we are concerned with.

some thing like a search box(s) for ip address, source ip, dest ip, source port, dest port, etc. When the search is run, only the rules that will affect that traffic are displayed.

  14. Alternate Line Colouring throughout

Not all areas have alternate line colouring e.g. Guardian >> Policy Objects >> User Defined, which makes it difficult to track which edit icon you need to click.

Alternatively, or ideally as well as, a click on the name of the item should open a pop up with the options there, so I could click on Staff Allowed and be offered Edit and Delete in a context menu.

An optional comment metadata field for entries in these user defined groups would also be very handy, so that when a URL is unblocked a note can be attached with requesting teacher,…
