i would like to be able to see in the dashboard or a report a breakdown of the current top 10 users of bandwidth. This would be useful for when i am told the "internet is going slow" so i can see who is currently using it and how much they are using. if possible i would also like to drill down to a user to then see the sites that they are on using the highest bandwidth8 votes
This will be one of the functions to appear in a cloud-based dashboard we are currently in the process of creating. Within the next few weeks we will be announcing a Smoothwall Product Community that will be sharing some of these plans for feedback, please join this, we’d love to hear your feedback on out ideas.
I really like the new Safeguarding report but is it possible to be able to export these? At present you can only view which is not usefull when you need to pass the information on.
We are looking to address this in our Kenilworth release.
Allow the use (through the UI) of a real world certificate for the admin UI over HTTPS.16 votes
This is planned, along with bringing this certificate for this under the banner of the new certificate management page in Edinburgh. For now though, it’s not currently covered by that page.
With Core Auth set as the auth policy, a user can still browse unidentified if no other methods are being used to update the Smoothwall with the user's identity (e.g. Kerberos script/BYOD/SSL login page). In this case, most browsing would still succeed (as they'd get the default policy), but when blocked browsing to a site, users would benefit from a link available on the blockpage to the login page.6 votes
why is not possible decide the period of log retention in days instead in months? Now with this new version how is possible clear log when datastore is full????5 votes
For example, an SMTP/SmoothZap Administrator, rather than just Quarantine. A Guardian 3 Administrator, rather than just an 'unblock' permission for an account...and so forth. Perhaps these users can't shut the system down or change NIC bindings, but they can administer portions of the Smoothwall fully, in addition to the permission set we have now.
Also, this granular permissions functionality will be needed eventually, for enterprise-level customers.5 votes
Further granularity on permissions will be available on request post Leeds-13
We are seeing a lot of virus warnings pop up from MS SCEP for Trojan:JS/Seedabutor.B, and checking the web filter logs against the reported time shows that this is always from a mistyped address leading to a typo-squatted URL - googoe.com, wkikpedia.org, misselfridge.com etc.
It would be very handy if such URLs could be automatically translated to the correct address; I know it could be done manually with URL modifications but a central list updated regularly, as with all the other categories, would be pro-active protection rather than reactive.5 votes
When trying to replace a existing multiple web filtering solution, have situation that the smoothwall needs to have multiple IP's on the same subnet. Only means to do this with out causing a "ARP FLUX" is to use internal aliases, this bring 2 IP's up on the secondary IP on the same network card. Problem is Guardian does not listen on this IP and so no means to take over running this proxy service on this IP.
Modification so that Guardian listens on these seconday interface IP's.6 votes
Whilst BYOD or cooperate device are outside the network they still need filtering to be active4 votes
Support for Android devices is currently a project in planning. It is a lot harder to achieve under Android due to the lack of an administration mode. However, we hope to bring a product to market mid-year.
