  2. Ability to grant control of categories in guardian to a Portal

Improvement to the Portal to allow groups control of guardian categories.

This will allow the administrators to grant users control of one or more categories through the portal with out granting the user full access to the guardian policies.

  3. Report for What File Types has a User Downloaded

Customer in question has asked if there is a report which shows what file types a user has downloaded.
This report could ignore HTML files as they only want to know if a user has downloaded exe's, zip's, msi's etc

  4. Need a place to enter the password for the FTP user in the Scheduler screen.

Need a place to enter the password for the FTP user in the Scheduler screen. If it exists, there should be a link to that page when editing schedules.

  5. Report to list URL that do not support NTLM

When there is a piece of software on the network that does not support NTLM and does not know how to deal with the 407 response, this can cause the log files to become bloated.

Would be useful to have a report that showed the top domains based on status code 407.

I have seen 3 pieces of software that has caused this issue.

    1) To do with nokia phone
    2) Piece of software that accessed labs.trolltech.com
    3) white board software

This caused the log file to grow over 2gb in size, due to the software straight away asking for…

  6. Anti-spam - STOP sending nice emails back to the open relays / spambots / spammers telling them their email was identified as spam

Optional to stop the anti-spam module sending nice emails back to the open relays / spambots / spammers telling them their email was identified as spam.

This is causing mail to backup in the queue that cannot be delivered to the spambots.

  7. Hardware Failover and UPS

When in hardware failover there is no way to configure the failover unit to be connected to a network based UPS. Need the ability to set up a network interface on the failover unit that is excluded from going down and has independent IP addressing so that it can communicate with network based UPS and be told to shutdown cleanly in a power outage situation.

  8. Exclude your ISP's dns from IDS checks

We are currently getting a lot of "Potential DNS Command and Control via TXT queries" going from us to our ISP's primary dns server. I doubt that there is anything bad going on and i think it is more likely to be our 2 internal dns servers talking to our ISP.

  10. SSL login page have more than one line for text messages to Users.

Customer would like to be able to present their AUP to their users via the SSL login page. On the Smoothwall this is only one line of text long. They would like to put up something like you see if you use the Wi-Fi in MacDonald's.

  11. Application Bandwidth Statistics - Does not give statistical information

The report generates graphs but gives no statistics on the total bandwidth used, Max, Min rates, or average rate for Incoming/Outgoing.

Be useful to have similar data available for the time period select that can be seen if you click the interfaces graph under networking > interfaces > interfaces.

  12. Option to make firewall rules apply to spoofed traffic

Spoofed traffic does not have firewall rules applied to it, Customer would like to be able to grant access to a secondary line based on the group they are coming from. This is to make sure that if the primary line fails, the secondary line which has lower bandwidth is not overloaded with traffic.

This happens in Inverness (firewall rules did not apply to spoofed traffic in Glams as well)

With inverness the firewall rules can be group aware, the customer tried to setup the following rule

    1) create LLB pool that has both connection in failover
    2) set the…

  13. Easy way to backup and restore Datastore logs

Customer in question has to keep 12 months worth of logs and 2 copies of them, one on the Smoothwall and one externally to the Smoothwall
At current, the only way to backup those logs is to make a copy of the /var/log/woodshed/node-name/guardian3/data/ folder as there is currently no where on the UI to do this.

Restoring the logs then becomes quite tricky as correct permissions need to be applied and the general consensus support get from development is that it is not a good idea.

Customer and Support would like an easier and more reliable way of backing up…

  14. Application Bandwidth Statistics - Ability to run the report to combine the statistics for 2 or more external internfaces

Be useful to run the Application Bandwidth Statistics report to combine 2 or more external interfaces so that you can see the top applications and the bandwidth usage of all of your external connection or a selection.

This would be useful for 2 reasons:

    1) To give a true top 5 bandwidth usage over all lines, as an application could be using bandwidth on both lines but only fall into position 6, but combined bandwidth usage could be higher.

    2) To understand your total peak bandwidth usage, this can help see if you need further bandwidth capacity.

  15. Child Node retention should be configurable rather then hard coded to 7 days

Customer in question wants light weight child nodes and doesn't see a point in why they have to keep 7 days of logs on a node which they can't report on.

The original reason why 7 days was hard coded was for, if the master reporting server went off line, the user had 7 days before they would start to lose logs but this was superseded by a datastore refusing to prune child logs if it couldn't confirm they were present on the master.

Customer would like UI options for configuring the Datastore retention settings on the child node for…

  17. Ability to make a full backup of settings from the command line

Would be useful to be able to make a full backup of settings from the command line, if for some reason you no long have access to the web interface.

Example of this would be hardware failure of none replaceable nics, or other such failure that would render the web UI none accessible.

This would mean you can make a backup of the current settings before attempting to repair the settings.

The backup process could be integrated with the setup menu, and possible automate copying to a USB device.
